The Bourbonnais Public Library District is seeking a detail-oriented, adaptable, and resourceful professional to lead our Circulation Services Department. This full-time (37.5 hours) position is responsible for the supervision of Circulation Services staff and services, ensuring excellent customer service to all patrons of the Library. This position is nonexempt and pays between $20.28 and $30.42/hour. Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct supervision to department staff, including planning, prioritizing, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work, and providing performance feedback.

  • Oversee all activities at the Circulation Desk.

  • Ensure staff and patrons comply with Library policies and procedures. 

  • Work the Circulation Desk.  Check materials in and out, issue and renew library cards, accept payment for overdue materials, and other related duties.

  • Create collection accounts for patrons owing more than $75.

  • Manage library meeting room reservations. 

  • Actively participate in management team meetings. Present reports on department activity.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Associate degree in Education, English, Business, or related field required; LTA or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of one-year management experience, preferably in a library setting
  • Ability to uphold confidential information related to patron records and library matters
  • Ability to lead others, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions
  • Proficient in the use of standard office technology and equipment
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Working conditions include:

  • Work involves crouching, kneeling, bending, and reaching to access library materials and execute library programs.  This position is responsible for lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing book carts that can weigh up to 100 pounds.

  • This position may require travel within the Chicagoland area to perform outreach activities and attend professional conferences and events.
