Children’s Librarian

BiblioTemps® is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library System that provides experienced library workers for temporary placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.

Title:                 Children’s Librarian

**Location:  **        Bolton Public Library (Bolton, MA)

Position Type: Temporary

**Start date:  **     January 7, 2024

End date:         April 4, 2024

Schedule:

·      Up to 25 hours per week

·      Tuesday 9:30am - 5:30pm; Wednesday 9:30am - 1:30pm; Thursday 4 - 8pm

·      Occasional Saturdays 9:30am - 2:15pm

**Pay Rate:  **      $20.75 - $24.00 per hour, based on experience

CORI:               Required

Description:

·      Responsible for the supervision of the Children's Department.

·      Keeps informed about issues, services, and innovations related to Children's Library Service. The work requires the exercise of considerable skill, initiative, and independent judgment.

·      Provide and promote children’s programs and services to the Bolton community.

·      Evaluate, select, and maintain library materials for children which reflect a variety of diversified cultural and educational interests.

·      Provides circulation and reference services to children, parents/caregivers, and teachers in a friendly and professional manner, as well as reader’s advisory support.

·      Instructs patrons in the use of the online catalog and other library resources.

·      Performs similar or related work as required or assigned.

Qualifications

·      The candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and technology in the library profession.

·      A Master’s Degree in Library Science or current MLIS student.

·      Experience with Evergreen (circulation and cataloging).

·      Experience carrying out weekly story time for children and lap-sit program for infants, reader's advisory, crafts, etc. 

·      Experience with book selection a plus, but not required. 

·      Must be able to work resourcefully, independently, and confidently. This position will need to be a self-starter after orientation.
