Children's Librarian

Are you passionate about providing great library services? We’re seeking a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individual to join our team at the Fox Branch Library as a full-time Children’s Librarian and help create an exciting neighborhood destination for kids and families.  

The Fox Branch Library serves the community of East Arlington with collections, services, and popular gathering spaces. The Fox is a beloved community resource, and the library has seen increasing community use and Town support. Over the last ten years, additional hours and increased staffing have brought huge gains to the library. Circulation has grown more than 200%.  

As part of the Children’s Services team, the candidate will perform a wide variety of professional children’s librarian work including, but not limited to, performing story times; curating traditional and non-traditional library collections; creating promotional materials; running special programs such as book clubs, STEAM programs, etc.; providing reader’s advisory services; and responding to reference questions. Preferred candidates will be creative, innovative, fun, have a commitment to doing all work through a lens of diversity, be able to work independently and as part of a larger department, have a basic knowledge of children’s developmental needs, a level of comfort with computer technology, and have excellent problem-solving skills.

The Fox Branch Library Children’s Librarian plays a crucial role in the success of the Branch.  This person is responsible for collection development and programs for kids from birth to 14. Qualifications

MLS Degree from an ALA accredited  school with specific course work or concentration in children’s programming and literature, plus one or more years of experience working directly with children.
