Children's Librarian

The Rumford Public Library in Rumford, ME is seeking a Full Time Children's Librarian with excellent communication skills.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate flexibility, good judgment and good humor under varying circumstances. The ability to multi-task and provide quality customer service is essential.

We are looking for a community-oriented, hands-on team player. Please be prepared to attend staff meetings, remain current on professional trends and assist in planning programs for children of all ages.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans, coordinates, and implements programming for children and young adults such as weekly story time for those under 6, science programs, summer reading program, and having outside presenters. These programs consist of music and movement, crafts, educational activities, and resources for children and their adult caregivers.
• Enhances the programs of local schools by providing complementary services.
• Provides customer services in the form of answering patron emails, providing reader's advisory, helping patrons find materials, use the computers and other technology instruction and assistance.
• Performs routine circulation desk tasks, such as checking materials in and out, registering new patrons library cards, answering the telephone and assisting parents and children in finding books and using the children's computer.
• Supervises the daily operation of the childrens room. Upholds the librarys behavior and child safety policies.
• Assists in compiling programming statistics and submitting statistics to Director.
• Performs outreach to schools and other local agencies for programming, especially summer reading program.

The Rumford Public Library is currently reopening after a long closure and this position will have the ability to grow programming and make the children's library area their own.

Two to three years of customer service work experience required, experience working with children, teens and their families a plus.
