Children's Librarian

The Town of Mattapoisett is seeking applicants for a full-time Children’s Librarian for the Mattapoisett Free Public Library. 

Mattapoisett is a small, coastal community in Southeastern Massachusetts with an annual operating budget of approximately $32 million. 

The Town of Mattapoisett seeks a qualified full-time Children’s Librarian to oversee and implement a comprehensive range of library services for children, their families, and caregivers. The successful candidate will work closely with the Library Director to coordinate the operations of the children’s services department, ensuring efficient and accurate services. This includes coordinating staff and volunteers, organizing daily projects, events, and programs, and providing timely information to the public. The Children’s Librarian must adhere to all municipal, state, and federal guidelines and quality standards.

This is a full-time union position, with approximately 35 hours/week with a starting salary range of $30.14 to $31.52 hourly.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a friendly attitude and demonstrate sensitivity, tact, discretion, and confidentiality. Must be able to deal respectfully and fairly with all people, including with complaints and challenges. Must be able to access all levels of a site/building/structure and climb a ladder.  A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required. Candidates must have at least (3) years of experience as a Children's Librarian or School Librarian, with demonstrated skills and abilities necessary to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
