Description
Bowling Green State University (BGSU) invites applications for an Education Librarian with faculty rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Special Collections (SC) within the University Libraries (UL)and is a full time, twelve-month renewable, non-tenure track qualified rank faculty appointment.
The SC Department is seeking an individual who is collaborative and has a working knowledge of juvenile literature. This position will include library instruction, reference, and collection development. The primary duties include teaching and collaborating with others to develop programs and events that bring patrons to the Curriculum Resource Center.
Information about Program and College
The Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) is a collection of high-quality materials for educators to use with learners in gradespreK-12. Award-winning juvenile literature, engaging curriculum materials, and hands on manipulatives provide valuable learning resources for educators to use with students. The unit consists of the head librarian, a faculty librarian, two classified staff, and student assistants.
Bowling Green State University Libraries is a founding and active member of OhioLINK, a consortium of 117 libraries at 88institutions plus the State Library of Ohio. The University Libraries (UL) comprises general collections (housed within the William T. Jerome Library) in social sciences, humanities, and sciences; government documents; the Curriculum Resource Center; and is home to three nationally prominent special collections: the Browne Popular Culture Library, the Center for Archival Collections, which includes the Historical Collections of the Great Lakes, and the Music Library and Bill Schurk Sound Archives. Essential Functions
Participates in library instruction; conducts individual research consultations; may serve as instructor of record for semester-long courses. Creates research guides and online learning modules as needed.
Shares expertise of juvenile literature with students and faculty; serves as a subject advisor on student research projects. Fosters successful and ongoing collaborations with education (and education related) faculty to promote the use of the CRC via course assignments and other cocurricular programs.
Participates in CRC service desk duties, including some evenings and an occasional Sunday.
Actively participates in collection development in assigned areas including selection, deselection and catalog enhancement as needed.
Coordinates outreach efforts for the CRC, including but not limited to managing the CRC web and social media presence, and planning programs and events that draw patrons into the collection.
Stays abreast of changes in content standards at the state and national levels, changes to the
education programs and courses on campus, and trends in the education field.
Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to education librarianship and juvenile literature.
Participates in departmental, library and university governance and service commitments.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution to be conferred by position startdate.
Knowledge of juvenile literature.
Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in a library.
Experience in a PreK-12 setting.
Knowledge of best practices in librarianship as evidenced by experiences and/or philosophies in information literacy,reference services, collection development and/or cataloging of materials.
Degree in education.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience with development and assessment of collections.
Experience planning and promoting events.
Evidence of service at the local, state, or national levels.
