Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and Saint Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana seeks an assistant or associate director of the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library. Newly renovated, the library houses a print collection of approximately 165,000 volumes and hosts a wide range of electronic resources. The library plays a critical role in supporting the educational mission of the Seminary and School of Theology. It also supports the bibliographic needs of a vibrant community of Benedictine monks. The person sought for this position will participate in a broad range of library management functions, including collection management, library system management, reference, and user outreach. This position offers an opportunity to combine advanced knowledge of scholarly resources in theology and related disciplines with service to students and scholars. Managing both print and digital resources, including selection and acquisition of content, managing access, and evaluation of emerging technologies, will be important elements of this position. Archabbey Library has a staff of four and is a member of the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI), a highly innovative and collaborative library consortium. PALNI offers unique opportunities for professional engagement and development for the person accepting this position. Whether the position is filled at the assistant or the associate level will depend on the successful candidate’s level of education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Either advanced degree in religion or theology with significant library experience or MLS with significant advanced study of theology or related subjects
  • Experience working with library resources supporting theological education or research
  • Understanding of scholarly resources supporting the study of religion and theology
  • Interest in and experience with managing and/or developing digital resources
  • Willingness to engage in user support and outreach
  • Ability to articulate a vision for theological library collecting in print and digital resources
  • Ability to assist with technical services, library systems, and collection management
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Understanding of Catholic tradition and commitment to Catholic seminary formation

Preferred

  • Working knowledge modern or ancient languages used in theological research
  • Experience with online learning platforms
