Assistant Librarian-Youth Services, Milford Town Library (Milford)

We are looking for a fun-loving, collaborative, outgoing, and passionate full- time addition to our team in the Youth Services Department! This role is a great opportunity for those looking to gain experience in all facets of the youth services realm while making positive connections with patrons of all ages. With a middle school directly across the street we welcome anywhere from 80-150 adolescent age youth into the Young Adult Department after school every day, so  a high level of patience for teenage tomfoolery and shenanigans with the ability to keep calm in a fast moving and at times hectic environment is a must. We have a vibrant community in Milford with a number of Portuguese and Spanish speaking youths/ families, so those fluent in Portuguese or Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

A Bachelors Degree and prior experience working with youth is required, fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is highly desirable.

As well as: 

Demonstrated ability to communicate in a positive manner with youths of all ages, caregivers, and community partners. 

Creativity and self-motivation, independent thinking, strong communication skills both verbally and in writing, flexibility, and the ability to clarify and resolve problems efficiently. Familiarity with current technologies including but not limited to Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and Canva. 

A desire to learn emerging technologies and share that knowledge with others through staff trainings or programming. 

Comfort in troubleshooting problems with software, apps, tablets, smartphones, PCs, Wi-Fi, copiers, printers, and other library-related technology. 

A broad knowledge and appreciation of youth literature, media, and social trends, including a thorough knowledge of classic and contemporary youth literature from pre-school through high school. A broad knowledge of digital and multimedia materials and electronic resources, including social media and communication tools.
