Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary

The Reference Librarian assists students, faculty and other staff in the effective use of learning resources in the Leatherby Libraries. Duties may include evening and weekend hours.

Key work in research support activities may include any combination of the following:Reference instruction and special projects in reference support materials as assigned.

  • Maintain statistics and associated public services record keeping.
  • Participate in liaison and instruction to appropriate departments, based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Reference (in person, email, phone, and chat). Develop and refine research guides and other online instructional materials. Maintain reference statistics. Coordinate the reference schedule. Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in liaison and instruction to appropriate departments, based on organizational needs.
  • Participate in archival and special collections projects, in consultation with the University Archivist.
  • Professional development to include reviewing of library related literature, scholarly or creative activities, and reflective analysis.Required Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact within a diverse organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and working in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions/recommendations.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate work among different projects.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience delivering reference service and library instruction, preferably in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and search experience with academic resources, including electronic resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with archival materials and/or special collections.
  • Ability to create research guides and library instructional materials.
