Assistant Head of Youth Services, Westfield Athenaeum (Westfield)

The Assistant Head of Youth Services is responsible for assisting the Head of Adult Services in the overall management and operation of the Youth Services Department. Responsibilities include: assisting the Head of Adult Services in the training and supervision of staff, collection development, program development, conducting off-site community outreach, and providing general circulation and reference services. The position works as part of the Youth Services team to complete a variety of duties involving standard library functions, such as: circulation, reference, collection development and reader's advisory. They will also contribute to youth and YA collection development through management of part of the juvenile collection, which includes: reading reviews, making purchases, and weeding material using best practices. The planning and implementation of youth programs and events will also be a significant aspect of this job. 

Qualifications

1. A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program is highly desired. A Bachelor's degree is required.
2. A thorough knowledge of children's and YA literature.
3. One to three years of supervisory experience in a library setting is highly desired.
4. Experience providing high quality customer service.
5. Good computer skills and experience with Evergreen is highly desired.
6. The ability to work as part of a team and independently.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral.
8. The ability to manage details and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
9. The ability to bend and lift light loads up to 30 pounds.
10. The ability to work some nights and weekends.

Salary Notes

The salary for a person in this position with an MLS would start at $22.19 per hour.
