Job SummaryReporting to the Director of Library Services, the Assistant Director of Library Services works in collaboration with the campus library staff, faculty and stakeholders across the Campus and College to lead and manage the library contributing successfully to the vision and mission of the library to advance the Learning Commons.

Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Performance Requirements*

  • Plans, coordinate, and evaluates of all aspects of the operations of the campus library in collaboration with the library director and other staff; leads the continued planning, development and co-creation of the library and learning commons services, technologies and collections
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and evaluating the collection to support instructional programs, community needs, and lifelong learning pursuits and teaches basic and advanced library, research and information literacy skills classes in support of student success
  • Provides orientations to the library through class presentations, tours, and individual instruction that supports student success including information literacy skills classes
  • Serves in leadership roles as appropriate, including assuming responsibilities of Director of Library Services during his/her absence
  • Assists Library Director in directing operations of library services for students and faculty in support of TCC's one college learning commons approach to student academic support services including developing goals and missions of the library
  • Assists library users with library and information needs, including conducting researching, selecting needed material, and developing research strategy in support of student success in both the library and online spaces
  • Gathers data, complies and creates reports, and analyzes library statistics; assists in making recommendations for improvement based on the review and tracking of system and process data
  • Keeps current on changing professional practices and advancements in the fields of libraries, student learning, and academic technology and actively participates in college-wide conversation on student engagement and success
  • Assists in building and maintaining community relations with a broad audience including faculty, staff, students, administrators and the community to promote the library and the college, and present a positive image of the college's academic support servicesService Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the CollegeSupervision

Works under the general supervision of the Director of Library Services

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited library program
  • Four (4) years' working experience within a library or learning commons service area
  • One (1) year's working experience leading or supervising people, projects and/ or teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) completed graduate course beyond the accredited ALA master's degree
  • At least one (1) year's working experience working in a community college with student services or programs providing direct support to students

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
  • Skilled using library automated applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to apply academic technologies that support the teaching and learning process in the classroom and online
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly ensuring accurate and timely completion, while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuring privacy and discretion with sensitive and confidential information
