This is a 40% limited appointment position, funded for 12 months with an expected start date of January 2025. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department.

DESCRIPTION

Special Collections & Archives houses a wide range of primary source materials that support UCSD's instructional and research programs. Holdings include 250,000 volumes, as well as thousands of manuscripts, archives, maps, photographs, artworks, and media.

Under the direction of the Supervisory Archivist, processes (i.e. sorts, arranges, and describes) materials in selected collections related to women in the arts for public research use following archival principles; performs basic preservation treatment for material, such as rehousing; carries out special projects as assigned. Analyzes documents for topical content and provides context and appropriate series arrangement. Interprets and creates complex spreadsheets, reports, and folder lists; creates a finding aid; ensures accurate descriptions and appropriate retention of material in the collection.

Works in high-security area. Pages material from high shelves.

  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of arranging, describing and preserving manuscript and archives collections, following standards recognized by the Society of American Archivists.
  • Experience using computers, relational databases, archival collection management tools, printers, and word processing software.
  • Ability to analyze, identify, describe and understand the correlations between different types of documents and records, including documents with restrictions or sensitive content.
  • Ability to organize and assign priorities to work in order to meet all quality and quantity standards.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including clear expression of ideas and concepts, complex writing in English, active listening, and willingness to share ideas.
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions independently.SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,975 - $77,277 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.85 - $37.01

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
