JOB TITLE:

Archives Aide, Content Lister

JOB PURPOSE:

Re-houses and examines archival materials for preservation concerns and creates content lists of new collection materials so the collection can be cataloged and made ready for research use.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties are the re-housing of incoming archival material, the preparation of attendant accessioning/cataloging paperwork, the creation of rudimentary archival finding aids, and other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Content Listing Supervisor.

Please Note:

This position provides an excellent educational opportunity for those working on degrees in the social sciences and humanities to gain real-world experience working in archives preparing collections for research use. It applies core archival practices, theories, software, and digital platforms involved in arranging, describing, cataloging, and creating finding aids for collection access and public use.

Due to the constant influx of new archival material into the AHC, a consistent student presence is required to maintain workflow and avoid backlogs. Therefore, this position requires the incumbent to maintain a schedule that allows them to spend between a minimum of ten (10) hours per week to a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week at the AHC performing their assigned duties.

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, performing them in a relatively short period of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format.
  • Computer, software, and writing skills commensurate with the creation of college level class assignments.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to analyze and describe collection contents to provide suitable finding aids.
  • Physically capable of moving large numbers of boxes weighing 25lbs to 75lbs with or without reasonable accommodation; and ability to work with dust, dirt, and other potential allergens and hazards.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Interest in western history, archives, museums, and libraries
