Are people, planning, and programming your passion?  If you're enthusiastic about creating innovative and classic events that bring lasting library joy to people, let us know!  The Shorewood-Troy Library is seeking an Adult Programming Coordinator to join our team.  This position relies on creativity and a desire to learn and lead others to the experiences, sense of belonging, and knowledge that they seek.

The Adult Services Programming Coordinator works under the supervision of the Head of the Adult + Teen Services. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing programming for the Library's adult patrons (ages 18+).  Other job responsibilities include professional-level work involving reference, readers' advisory, and library instruction to patrons.  This full-time, non-exempt position has an annual salary of $40,040 ($19.25 per hour/40 hours per week).

Job Duties Include:

  • Planning and implementing engaging and creative programs for adults, including but not limited to basic technology programs, craft programs, and programs conducted by outside presenters.

  • Communicating and coordinating programs with outside presenters.

  • Scheduling programs by the library calendar and coordinating with the Children's Programmer and Teen Programmer.

  • Works with the library's marketing manager to promote the library's programs effectively.

  • Moderates a monthly, established fiction book club.

  • Provides reference and readers' advisory assistance at the ATSD desk.

  • Train and perform as a Passport Acceptance Agent and work rotating shifts (training provided on the job).

  • Attend Pinnacle Library Cooperative Committee meetings as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in planning and implementing adult programming in libraries.

  • Experience in working at a reference/readers' services desk.

  • Knowledge of pop culture.

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.

  • Strong ability to communicate, both in speech and in writing.

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in difficult situations.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry. Ability to push a fully loaded book cart.

  • Must have transportation to travel to meetings on occasion and reliable transportation to work.

  • Office skills include Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva.

  • Strong Customer Service skills

Benefits include:

  • Participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
  • The Library offers 3 Health Insurance plans: a low-deductible PPO, a high-deductible PPO, and an HMO (all through Blue-Cross, Blue-Shield).  The Library pays 80% of the lowest cost plan for the employee, currently the high-deductible PPO.  The employee is responsible for paying the difference for the other plans.  Health care for dependents can be purchased at cost through the Library.
  • 160 hours of vacation annually; pro-rated the first year.
  • 96 hours of sick time annually; pro-rated the first year. It can accumulate up to 320 hours. Paid holidays.

Qualifications:

LTA or equivalent library experience, with a minimum of one year experience planning recreational and/or educational programs for adults.  Requires day, evening, and weekend hours, with some flexibility.
