Skidompha Library in Damariscotta, Maine is seeking an Adult Services Librarian. Skidompha is a rural library with an active community of patrons and an established and active Adult Services program.   • Have professional library experience working with adults, demonstrating effective communication and engagement.
  • Be able to work Tuesday-Saturday

This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone interested in working in a public library and making a meaningful difference in the community. The Adult Services Librarian will work primarily with the Head Librarian, Children and Teen Services Librarians, and the Executive Director, but also work collaboratively with all members of the library staff, and support all departments.

Objectives of This Position:

  • Ensure a safe and welcome environment for patrons
  • Engage adult patrons with fun and meaningful programs and activities
  • Support individual literacy and learning goals of all patrons
  • Collaborate with other staff members to serve the needs of all patrons
  • Find and pursue program funding
  • Maintain and create relationships with local organizations

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely and cooperatively with all staff as we endeavor to create the best expression of the Skidompha Library we can.
  • Participate in collection development. Develop and maintain the diverse and representative adult collection of books and materials.
  • Pursue grants and other financial support opportunities
  • Collaborate with department heads re. scheduling programming and events.
  • Plan and execute regular, interesting and entertaining adult programming, including a series of summer-long summer reading programs.
  • Assist with everyday library functions, including circulation tasks and assisting patrons.
  • Work cooperatively with the Communications Director and write weekly updates in contribution to the library's email newsletter.
  • Regularly interact with adults. This includes making sure adults know about resources and programming, and ensuring the library is being utilized in a manner that supports all patrons.
  • Embrace, promote, and include Skidompha's Mission and Value in all library activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

This position is for 40 hours per week at $21-$23/hr depending upon experience. Schedule is as follows: Tuesday 9-6pm, Wednesday, 8:30-5:30pm, Thursday and Friday, 9-6pm, Saturday 9.30-2pm.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in library science
  • Experience working in a public library.
  • Experience working with Minerva/Sierra ILL
  • Experience with collection development and cataloging
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Proficiency and comfort with computers MS Suite, Canva, and Google Workspace
  • Organized
  • Creative and flexible
