Black Hills State University Library seeks a customer-service oriented professional to join our team. The Access Services Coordinator will oversee the Library Information Desk, manage student employees, perform acquisitions duties, and process collection materials. They will take the lead in promoting library services, including managing social media accounts and creating book displays. The ideal applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity, ability to work independently, and willingness to work collaboratively.

Information Desk and Circulation ResponsibilitiesOversee the daily operations of the Library Information Desk

  • Answer basic reference and other questions, referring patrons to other individuals or departments as necessary
  • Provide coverage or back-up coverage for the Library Information Desk
  • Maintain Library Information Desk Manual and related training materials
  • Responsibility for stack maintenance, including shelf reading, inventory, shifting, and signage
  • Manage all circulation processes, including billing for lost materials
  • Responsible for the course reserve systemStudent Employment Coordinator
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees
  • Collaborate with librarians on projects utilizing student employees
  • Create the Information Desk schedule for student employees
  • Monitor the student employee labor budgetAcquisitions and Collection Processing
  • Responsibility for library acquisitions, including purchasing of supplies, equipment, and collection materials
  • Monitor the library operations budget, working closely with the library director
  • Process new book and periodical materials, process new media (DVDs/CDs) materials, and maintain DVD title and call number discographies with inventory numbers, utilizing student labor when possible
  • Assess and repair damaged materials (main collections) and repurchase needed titles determined to be unrepairableMarketing & Promotion
