ACCESS SERVICES ASSOCIATE - HAYDEN LIBRARY, Libraries, under the direction of the Access Services Manager, assists with circulation, reserves, and service desk operations including space management and patron support with library equipment and systems; provides in-person service, policy interpretation, and supervises morning-shift student workers; collaborates on student hiring and training, develops documentation, and oversees library opening/closing and safety reporting; supports material handling, including sorting, delivery, check-in, and shelving across campus locations and the Storage Annex; performs book searching, processing, and maintenance of collections; and participates in committees, contributes to service improvements, and assists in statistical reporting and financial transactions, ensuring efficient library operations.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and good driving record; a minimum of two years of relevant experience in library or service functions, post-high school education may substitute for experience; proficiency in library catalogs, MS Office, and interest in mastering new technology; solid communication, organizational, and customer service skills, along with flexibility, initiative, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment; and work well independently and collaboratively in a diverse setting. PREFERRED: experience in academic or research libraries, customer service, and training or supervising others; familiarity with Aleph ILS; and bachelor's degree. Job #24753-5

Work Conditions: Moving and positioning up to 150 lbs.

AFSCME Hourly range: $23.38 - $31.71 - $39.98, rate based on qualifications and experience.

This is a union position. Employees are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the MIT Libraries and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 93.
