The Reddick Public Library District, serving the vibrant Ottawa, Illinois area, has an immediate opening for a full-time Youth Services Librarian, 40 hours/week. We are seeking an energetic, creative, professional, and innovative person to join our dynamic staff.

Duties:

  • Plans, presents, and supervises programs for children of all ages.
  • Develops, selects, and maintains library collection of children’s materials. 
  • Supervises Youth Services staff including creating schedules, delegating and assigning programs and tasks, conducting staff evaluations, and other related duties as specified by director.
  • Maintains department budgets.
  • Acts as a reader’s advisor and reference librarian for department.
  • Creates and assigns displays, book lists, and other promotional materials.
  • Assists patrons with use of library materials, equipment, and services.
  • Fosters positive partnerships with community agencies/organizations.
  • Represents the library at community events and in the media as assigned.
  • Attends meetings and actively seeks professional development opportunities.
  • Recommends policies and procedures related to department.
  • Prepares monthly report for director.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships.
  • Cooperates as a team member in performing any duty essential to the achievement of efficient library operations. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • One year or more of library experience working with the public preferred.
  • Strong professional public service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well in English, both orally and in writing, required. Ability to communicate in Spanish desirable.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office products required.
  • High level of proficiency using Internet, email, online searching, and Windows operating systems in a desktop computing environment.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Salary: Salary starts at $25.00 per hour DOQ.
