Youth Services Librarian

Full Time or Part Time: Full Time Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including days, evenings, and weekends. **Salary: **$22.00-$26.00/hour depending on qualifications

The Youth Services team is looking for someone creative and organized to hit the ground running in an active department. In addition to staffing a public desk, Youth Librarians handle collection development, outreach, and programming. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, as well as an IMRF retirement plan.

Responsibilities

  • May act as a person-in-charge when supervisors aren’t present: opening and closing the Library, interpreting & enforcing library policies.
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services. Assist individuals of all ages in finding information, locating and suggesting materials, and conducting research inquiries.
  • Build, maintain, and promote assigned collection areas.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of youth and teen literature, movies, popular culture, and trends.
  • Provide instruction on the Library’s digital platforms, databases, and other resources.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate Library programs for patrons from Birth to 12th grade, and their families, including intergenerational programming.
  • Create and maintain displays and booklists that promote the Library’s collections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • MLS from an ALA accredited graduate library school or equivalent education level is required. Current MLS students are welcome to apply.

  • One year experience working in a public library or equivalent setting, experience with children preferred.

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • The ability to communicate effectively, use good judgment in the decision making process, and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • STEAM programming experience and/or Spanish language fluency a bonus
