Youth Services Assistant

Flossmoor Public Library is looking for a Youth Services Assistant to be part of our energetic and enthusiastic team in a busy Youth Services department. This position will engage our young patrons with regularly scheduled children’s programs and services, primarily story times and S.T.E.A.M. programs. This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing creative displays, as well as providing reader’s advisory and general reference service at the Youth Services Desk. 

The ideal candidate will be passionate and enthusiastic about working with children and teens, have a general knowledge of literature for children and teens, and be a strong team player. Experience working with young children is a plus! This is a great opportunity for an MLIS student looking to gain experience in Youth Services. 

Qualifications:

· High school diploma (some college preferred) 

· Knowledge of literature for children and teens 

· One year of library or public service experience working with children and/or families 

· Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach up to 70” with reasonable accommodations 

· Commitment to public service 

· Familiarity with computers/Microsoft Office programs required 

· Availability to work evenings and weekends required 

· Social media skills a plus 

· Social work experience a plus
