Position Summary Performs professional librarian duties related to the operations of the Santa Fe Community College library. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

This is a TEMP position, therefore continous employment is contingent upon further position need. Duties & ResponsibilitiesManages and performs all cataloging functions, including original and copy cataloging, and re-cataloging as needed, meeting all national standards;

  • Maintains the integrity of library records with an outside library vendor;
  • Ensures that library records are accessible in the library's discovery system;
  • Manages all serials collections both for paper and electronic subscriptions;
  • Manages and performs all interlibrary loan functions, including borrowing, lending, and maintaining statistics;
  • Coordinates and evaluates all donations to the library and determines items to be retained or discarded;
  • Oversees binding and book repair.Performs the duties of an SFCC librarian:
  • Assists users (faculty, staff, and students of the college as well as community members) in locating and utilizing needed materials and information;
  • Provides reference services to library patrons, both in person and virtually, during regularly scheduled times and also as needed;
  • Provides information on library and college activities, facilities, rules, and services to library users;
  • Contributes to collection development with vibrant and relevant sources;
  • Teaches users to be independent users and evaluators of information;
  • Assists the library director with database administration and maintenance;
  • Evaluates electronic resources and makes recommendations for continuation, discontinuation and additions;
  • Participates in the development of short and long-range plans and goals for the library;
  • Works as a contributing team member in developing and implementing all library policies and procedures;
  • Assists the Library Director in realizing all of the goals and objectives of the library;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of professional library and information sciences principles, practices and standards.
  • Knowledge of modern methodologies, techniques and terminology uses in professional library and information sciences.
  • Knowledge of national and international interlibrary loan standards and professional practices.
  • Knowledge of professional cataloging standards and practice.
  • Knowledge of professional serials best practices.
  • Knowledge of standard reference materials used in the retrieval of information.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles.
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to provide quality customer services.Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an ALA accredited university.
  • One (1) year professional librarian experience.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with a wide range of electronic resources, i.e., library databases, integrated library systems, social media outreach.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a web page.Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
  • The work is typically performed in a library or office.Work Hours:
