The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Systems & Technology Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank to begin Spring 2025. This is a non-tenure track professional faculty position with an initial appointment of 3 years and renewable, with a starting salary of $62,000.

Primary duties will include:

  • Participating in the design, testing, deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, administration, and evaluation of multiple essential discovery; delivering and inventorying systems in the Library’s portfolio including Alma/Primo VE, OpenAthens, the Springshare LibApps suite, and Application Program Interfaces (APIs) from Library vendors;
  • Researching, evaluating, recommending, testing, and implementing new technologies in collaboration with librarians and library staff;
  • Providing training and support for the Library on the configuration of library systems and services through troubleshooting, data analytics, and system enhancements;
  • Serving as lead contact with library systems vendors and maintaining excellent vendor relations for troubleshooting, functionality and system upgrades, and assessment of new projects;
  • Developing strategies for collaboration, program planning, and support for interdisciplinary digital projects and initiatives;
  • Maintaining and updating OpenAthens to ensure off-campus access to Library systems and reports;
  • Maintaining knowledge of, and engaging in, continuous professional development to keep up with trends in library systems, emerging technologies, digital tools, and software solutions;
  • Serving as a liaison to and collaborating with the Office of Information Technology and other campus technology partners and stakeholders;
  • Serving as a liaison to assigned academic departments for research and instruction support;
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting the library’s website;
  • Participating in special projects and serving on committees relating to the library, the University, and consortia;
  • Participating in activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies in service to the campus and Library missions;
  • Serving on departmental, university, and professional committees
  • Other duties as assigned

This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must hold a earned Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution. Candidates nearing degree completion will also be considered but must have earned the Master’s degree before appointment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of information technology principles, processes, systems, and standards, including operating systems, systems security, wireless networking, digital initiatives, and emerging web technologies.
  • Demonstrated potential for advancement in rank. We strongly encourage candidates with a strong desire to serve first-generation students; two years’ related experience; experience leading systems projects or implementing new technologies, preferably in an academic library environment; experience with ILS systems such as Alma/Primo VE or library management systems such as OCLC WMS; experience with authentication processes using Shibboleth, SAML, or OpenAthens; and knowledge of basic programming concepts and languages, scripting environments, coding systems, and/or notation formats such as Python, R, Java, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, JSON, XSL, and XML.
