Description

This role ensures digital physical accessibility of journals, magazines, and newspapers in the library collection. This includes 2,500 unbound issues across 107 titles and 30,000 bound issues across 1,349 titles in the print serials collection. They manage the daily activities necessary for the processing (barcodes, stamps, inventory) of serial publications, both printed and electronic. This includes the management of all serials binding activities and the maintenance of the serial holdings record for both print and online publications in the library’s web-based integrated library system, ALMA.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. (Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Responsible for serials acquisition and receiving activities (including check-in, usage statistics, binding for print subscriptions, purchase suggestions, and claiming or other vendor communications) for the electronic integrity of the serials holding list.
  • Executes and updates workflows to manage metadata for large-scale journal collection subscriptions in collaboration with the collection management team.
  • Maintains physical serials collection (including organizing, cleaning, and weeding schedules) to ensure accessibility and relevance to patrons.
  • Performs regular shifts at the Reference Desk, answering basic reference questions and directing queries as needed.
  • Promotes and encourages Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the workplace and throughout the library collection.
  • Other duties as assigned or desired in accordance with education and experience. For example, develop and/or support library programming.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Ex Libris’ Web-based integrated library system Alma is desired
  • One year’s experience working with serials materials in a library setting preferred
  • Ability to direct workflow to student workers and other staff who assist in all phases of serials maintenance and distribution.
  • Ability to answer or redirect patron questions about the serials collection and provide support to circulation staff when new serials policies are enacted.
  • Ability to perform copycataloging for serials materials with the option to expand into other collections.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of two years’ experience in a library required
