Job Number: R0004023 Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Research Consultant will provide paraprofessional research assistance for day, evening, and weekend hours for Liberty University Online (LUO) and residential students. This position reports to the Coordinator, Research and Instruction.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Supports Liberty University online and residential students' research via telephone, email, FAQ entries, recorded videos, chat, and text reference.

  2. Supports residential students by offering research assistance at the library reference desk.

  3. Records research assistance statistics and relevant notes into the statistics database.

  4. Assists with maintenance of electronic databases by conducting sample searches, verifying access to resource and full-text content, logging results, and notifying Electronic Resources Librarian of problems.

  5. Assists Coordinator, Research and Instruction with special projects as assigned.

  6. Demonstrates the ability to work in and with diverse populations.

  7. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.

  8. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

A bachelor's degree and 9+ hours of completed graduate work required. A master's of library science and ability to speak a second language (Spanish or Korean) preferred. This position will be scheduled during the hours that the Jerry Falwell Library offers telephone and chat research assistance. Shifts may include morning as early as 7:30 a.m., nights until 2 a.m., and weekend hours. Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly required to lift 20 or fewer pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
