The Opportunity:

The Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) invites applications for the position of Research and Instruction Librarian serving a diverse population of residential and online students.  The Research and Instruction Services Department is currently hiring for a Research and Instruction Librarian who is passionate about serving students through research consultations and instruction, developing information literacy, and engaging in creative partnerships with faculty through liaison relationships.  

The successful candidate will join the Hunt Library https://huntlibrary.erau.edu/, serving Daytona Beach and our Worldwide Campus of online students, working regular business hours plus some nights and weekends.  This professional staff position reports to the Associate Director for Research and Instruction Services.  Hunt Library is a forward-thinking, technologically advanced library organization on the Ex Libris ALMA ILS and offering a robust range of electronic collections and integrated library software.   

Duties include working as part of a team providing reference services in-person, virtual, and electronic modes, developing online learning objects, sharing in synchronous and asynchronous library instruction, mentoring student employees, and participating in collaborative team and cross-departmental assignments and special projects. No aviation or aerospace background is required: we welcome librarians from a wide variety of academic disciplines who will enjoy working with our dedicated, hardworking students. Growing the research presence and agenda is at the heart of the ERAU strategic plan, and Hunt Library provides an excellent opportunity for librarians who want to engage with the development of research skills among undergraduate and graduate students. Consider joining our team.  Recent graduates and mid-career librarians are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or information studies. 
  • Library reference and research assistance experience, or an interest in research librarianship as a career path. 
  • Library instruction experience and/or an interest in developing pedagogical skills in librarianship. 
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools and skills and remain current with emerging technologies and processes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of faculty/staff, students, and colleagues. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across library and organizational teams for projects such as collection management, promotion of library resources, and development of new library artifacts and initiatives. 
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, time management, organizational and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Experience communicating effectively in a virtual environment. 

**Preferred Qualifications: **

  • Academic library experience. 
  • Instruction or training experience and comfortable presenting to small and large groups. 
  • Database knowledge and searching proficiency. 
  • Experience developing online learning objects or online modules. 
  • Experience training, supervising, or mentoring student assistants. 
  • Experience developing, providing, or assisting with events. 
  • Proficiency with learning management software such as Canvas.
