Description

The Florida State University seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and innovative law librarian to serve as the Research & Instruction Librarian. This position provides research and reference support to our faculty and students and teaches legal research in various settings. This librarian will be part of a highly collaborative, forward-thinking library that is a valued contributor to the College of Law's mission. The ideal candidate will have experience working with faculty, students, and/or attorneys in a challenging, service-oriented environment, research instruction experience, excellent communication skills, and thrive in a team environment. We welcome experienced and entry-level applicants, including Spring/Summer 2025 graduates.

  • Provides reference and research support to faculty and student research, including in-depth research assistance at the reference desk, email support, and in-person consultations.
  • Participates in the legal research curriculum, teaching via workshops, guest lectures, and for-credit courses in various formats, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face instruction.
  • Creates and maintains research guides, specialized course resources, and research resources for other law school departments.
  • Contributes to the College of Law and the profession through committee work, research, publishing, and/or participation in professional organizations.
  • Represents the Research Center on various college, campus, and library system committees and at meetings and other functions. Facilitates collaborative relationships within the College of Law and with campus partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This is a full-time, 12-month specialized faculty appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree and M.L.S. (or equivalent) degree from accredited institutions. 
    Alternatively, substantial experience as a professional librarian that meets university guidelines can be substituted for one of the degrees.
  • Proficiency in legal research and information technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, time-management, and analytical skills.
  • Have a strong service orientation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet the Research Center's research, service, and leadership requirements.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
