Reference Librarian

The Henry Carter Hull Library is seeking an enthusiastic Reference Librarian to join our Adult Reference team on a full-time basis. As Reference Librarian, you’ll engage with patrons at our busy service desk, by providing essential access to information resources. The ideal candidate is creative and flexible, customer service oriented, and a collaborative team player. The Reference Librarian must have strong technology skills, plus excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Duties: Provides reference and information assistance (including readers’ advisory and tech help) in person, by phone, and electronically. Participates in collection development for non-fiction including weeding, purchasing, cataloging and cataloging maintenance. Computer troubleshooting and other duties or special projects as assigned, including programming. Provides service to the community through programming, outreach, and other Library services. Responsibilities also include circulation duties when needed. Perform other duties as required.

Education and skills: This position requires a Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited program. Significant progress toward MLS combined with relevant experience will be considered. The person in this position must be able to relate effectively and courteously to library patrons and co-workers and be an effective team player. Knowledge of library resources, computer resources, and community resources is preferred. The ability to multi-task and think quickly is also required. Physical strength and dexterity are required to handle library items and boxes up to 30 pounds in weight. This position reports directly to the Head of Reference Services.

Hours: Includes mostly daytime with some evening and weekend shifts. Compensation: $56,000 with full benefits; health insurance, 403(b), PTO
