Summary

Responsible for Reference Services and maintaining print subscription collections at Miller Library.

Duties

  1. Provides in-person, online, phone and email reference service to Miller Library patrons, including students, faculty, staff and members of the larger Grant County community.
  2. Works with the Access Services Librarian as co-leads in the reference department, including keeping statistics, assessment of reference services, coordinating reference procedures for reference staff.
  3. Maintains the library's print subscription collections.
  4. Assists the Instruction / Outreach Librarian with library instruction and outreach as necessary.
  5. Recommends materials for purchase in assigned subject categories.
  6. Hires, supervises, trains WNMU student assistants as necessary.
  7. Works with the Digitization Team (Access Librarian & Digital Initiatives Librarian) to digitize and catalog archival material.
  8. Participates in library & WNMU committees.
  9. Creates displays promoting library resources.
  10. Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.Education/Background

Bachelors degree with at least 3 years of library work experience required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Job Knowledge

Demonstrated experience providing quality library reference services in a variety of modalities. Knowledge of library reference and circulation practices. Experience with Integrated Library System(s) (especially WMS) Demonstrated successful experience using library databases and library catalog to access high quality peer reviewed, trade and consumer research sources. Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to resolve patron issues in a professional and respectful manner. Ability to handle multiple long-term projects accurately and successfully. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be sensitive to differences in cultural, economic, and life experiences within the University and community. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common office equipment.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)

Normal library environment. May be required to push or pull full book carts, lift up to 50 pounds, reach materials on high or low shelves. May include regular exposure to dust and chemicals typically used in a library setting. May require occasional travel within the community. Ability to comprehend and work with a variety of information from various sources. Able to clearly communicate with a diverse population of individuals. Ability to compose correspondence and reports and remain in a sedentary position for prolonged periods of time. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
