Overview:  The Outreach Manager oversees outreach and community library services, and is responsible for the planning, training, administration, and implementation of all outreach functions. It requires driving the Bookmobile throughout the county to provide mobile library service. The position establishes outreach priorities, schedules outreach activities, maintains budgets, and collects statistical data. It supervises all staff and volunteers assigned to outreach.

Salary: $63,377.60 annually (exempt)

Schedule: Full-time, exempt status. Because outreach to the community may take place during a variety of days and times, including evenings and Saturdays, the work schedule will vary and you must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities:

● Coordinates and oversees system-wide outreach.

● Manges and markets the bookmobile collection and services.

● Oversees and coordinates all bookmobile services, operations and activities.

● Supervises all staff members assigned to outreach.

● Oversees administrative functions of outreach activities.

● Provides direct outreach services by driving the bookmobile (36-foot vehicle) throughout the county.

Requirements:

Minimum:

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS). Three years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience. Proven experience in conducting outreach in an organizational setting. In-depth knowledge of programming for all age groups and expertise in selecting suitable programs and materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and nurture strong partnerships with community organizations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong public speaking and presentation abilities. Proficiency in computer skills, including Google Workspace, databases, electronic resources, and other relevant software. Must hold a valid Georgia Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.

Preferred:

Experience directing literature-based programming and promotional activities in a public library setting. Experience managing library services for all ages in a public library setting.

NOTE: This position requires long periods of sitting at a desk while working at a personal computer, meeting with other persons, and reviewing documents. Daily, this position is required to drive the bookmobile (CDL not required) or other library vehicles to facilitate Outreach Services. Daily, the position involves intermittent periods of standing, walking, stooping and bending. Duties involve frequent lifting of light objects (e.g., books, reams of paper) with occasional lifting or moving of heavier objects (e.g., tables, crates of books, oversized games). The incumbent regularly uses a personal computer, standard office equipment, and craft tools requiring a high degree of dexterity. Daily activities require the incumbent to communicate verbally under pressure, to project vocally to a group, and to distinguish between shades of color. The incumbent is occasionally required to manipulate audio/visual equipment, work from a ladder, and push fully loaded carts of books. Outreach events require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving of equipment (e.g., loading equipment into and out of vehicle; setting up and breaking down portable tent; lifting and moving cumbersome or heavy crates, bins, tables, and chairs; moving items over unpaved or uneven surfaces). On a regular basis, the incumbent drives a vehicle and is exposed to outdoor weather conditions and traffic hazards.
