In collaboration with the Open Educational Resources for Social Justice (OERFSJ) grant team, this position will support our 38 participating faculty members/11 teams in creating OER, which includes creating and revising content in Pressbooks and H5P. The intern will focus on providing faculty instruction and production support, which may include planning and hosting faculty trainings; checking copyright and open license compatibility; creating content for an open faculty handbook; locating or creating inclusive images and figures; making images and figures accessible; and assisting with OER creation in Pressbooks and H5P. This is an opportunity for a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) student interested in academic librarianship and in gaining experience in OER creation, instructional design, accessibility, AI as an educational technology tool, open pedagogy, and copyright/open licensing. The term is projected to be one semester or 2 quarters, between 10-15 hours per week or a minimum of 120 hours/quarter, not to exceed 19 hours per week. This position is a paid, part-time, fully remote internship and is scheduled to start in January 2025.About OER for Social Justice

Funded by a Department of Education Open Textbook Pilot grant, OER for Social Justice (OERFSJ) is a three-year initiative to support the creation and use of open educational resources (OER) across four California private institutions: Loyola Marymount University (the hosting institution), Saint Mary's College of California, Santa Clara University, and the University of San Francisco. Eleven faculty teams representing multiple disciplines are charged with integrating social justice and diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism (DEIA) into their high-enrollment courses through OER.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  1. Conduct copyright and open license reviews of OER content;

A.) Ensuring remixed and reused content does not infringe on copyright.

B.) Ensuring content is properly attributed using TASL (title, author, source, and license) format.2. Assist in the development of an OER internal and peer-review processes;

A.) Norming and further development of OERFSJ Rubric.

  1. Create instructional materials (i.e., slide deck, Pressbooks chapter, etc.) for faculty OER training.

  2. Weekly check-ins with supervisor and participation in team meetings.

  3. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program in Library/Information Sciences; or related field or equivalent experience. Post-graduate interns with a Master's degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA accredited program or related field or equivalent experience are welcome to apply.
  • Experience or interest in open pedagogy and open educational resources (OER) is preferred.
  • Experience working virtually, independently, and in a team environment.
  • Interest in open education.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and to work independently with minimal instruction and supervision.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and thorough attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new software and systems.
