Network Security Administrator in Chicago area (Hybrid)

Are you looking to join a cross-functional team dedicated to serving libraries in the Chicago metropolitan area? Are you interested in using your IT and network administration skills in supporting the operations of a consortium of 100 libraries, reaching over 1.9 million residents?

SWAN Library Services is looking for an enthusiastic network admin to join our IT and Systems Support team. The full-time position comes with a starting salary range of $63,000 to $79,000 and includes medical insurance benefits, employer 401k contributions, and a hybrid work from home environment. This position does require occasional office and library site visits, as well as participation in an on-call rotation. Employment at SWAN is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). 

Responsibilities:

• Performs all necessary engineering, development, and implementation of server and network infrastructure and ensure stability and security of SWAN systems, ensuring 99.9% in-hours uptime.
• Supports SWAN membership’s IPsec VPN connections and investigates/resolves outages as needed.
• Identifies and resolves potential threats and security issues on network equipment and servers. 
• Monitors network and system performance for stability and recommends/implements improvements as needed.
• Assists in the troubleshooting of internal and external support cases.
• Assists Systems Administrators in the oversight of essential server operations and upkeep of Integrated Library System (ILS) as needed. 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field required

• Network and systems administration experience, including familiarity with Linux CLI required

• Strong proficiency with firewalls and VPN protocols required

• Experience with Microsoft Cloud Platform: Entra, Intune, Defender, etc.

• Experience with cloud computing – Microsoft Azure preferred

• Proficiency with SSL/TLS/HTTPS and maintaining certificate authorities

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
