Position Focus:
Yale University seeks a dynamic and collaborative manager to lead the Monographic Acquisitions and Cataloging (non-Latin Script) Unit and to join our team of innovative technical services professionals. The manager of this unit is instrumental in developing and maintaining workflows and best practices for the acquisition and cataloging of resources in non-Latin script languages for Yale Library. The successful candidate will lead a group of three librarians and six acquisitions and cataloging assistants, fostering open communication and professional development in the group. The incumbent will work closely with other managers in Monographic Processing Services, as well as their staff, to analyze processes, to develop meaningful metrics, and participate in strategic planning. This role provides professional, technical, and fiscal expertise in the overall management of monographic accessions in non-Latin script languages for Yale Library resources. This is an exceptional opportunity for a librarian motivated by the purposeful application of staff skills, technology, and best practices to serve the resource needs of research library users. This role also offers the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in initiatives, such as those involving linked data and identity management, and the development of sustainable models for library services.
This position works closely with other units in Technical Services and its partner departments to support and improve access to non-Latin script materials, through effective leadership and performing original cataloging. The incumbent will participate in establishing library metadata and acquisitions practices in light of evolving standards and best practices; recommend and implement improvements to existing tools and workflows; provide technical services expertise internally to library staff and externally to the Yale community and colleagues in the profession; keep abreast of key trends in technical services practice, particularly in cataloging, metadata and publishing trends, as well as trends in other fields that can inform this practice. In this role, the manager represents Technical Services, Yale Library, and Yale University, in a variety of capacities on committees and other groups, both within and outside of Yale.

Essential Duties:
1. Hires, trains, evaluates, and sets annual goals for clerical & technical staff and managerial and professional staff within the Monographic Acquisitions and Cataloging (non-Latin Script) Unit. 2. Provides assistance and expertise for acquiring and cataloging primarily print and other physical formats throughout the library. In collaboration with stakeholders and the Director of Monographic Processing Services, develops best practices, policies, and procedures for managing and ensuring accountability for accessioning of print and other physical formats. 3. Manages process and workflow changes based on organizational and departmental needs. 4. Makes recommendations for staffing and level of expertise needed for receiving and cataloging units. 5. Serves as one of the library's main points of contact regarding cataloging needs and assessment 6. Plays an active role in projects and initiatives with technical services components as assigned. 7. Participates in professional activities outside of Yale and monitors developments and best practices elsewhere to encourage innovation and ensure excellence of the Library 8. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts. Fiscal year-end vacation restrictions apply.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program for library and information science. Two years of professional experience, accomplishments and demonstrated supervisory experience, including training and staff development.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated knowledge of bibliographic standards, such as RDA and MARC, metadata, databases, library acquisitions processes. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for non-Latin script cataloging in MARC and RDA.

Excellent communication skills. Ability to explain technical services processes and issues to non-specialist audiences. Reading and writing knowledge of a non-Latin script language.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Experience managing library technical services operation, familiarity with linked data concepts and/or applications. Demonstrated knowledge of search and discovery, user experience and/or assessment for materials in non-Latin script languages. Demonstrated record of leading interdepartmental projects and bringing them to a successful conclusion in a timely fashion.
