General Purpose
Under direct supervision this position is responsible for performing copy cataloging. In addition, this positions is responsible for the acquisitions and processing of library materials for circulation.
The schedule for this role is Tuesday-Saturday.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs copy cataloging of library materials using a fully integrated automated library system.
- Performs original cataloging as needed.
- Build cataloging authority control.
- Assigns location codes, call numbers and heading according to established bibliographic and local standards
- Searches bibliographic utility databases; identifies best records for local use, edits and transfers records to local databases; loads records supplied by book jobbers.
- Creates brief bibliographic records according to established format and policy.
- Updates and deletes bibliographic records.
- Assigns location codes (call numbers) and appropriate subjects, series and other authority-controlled access headings according to established bibliographic and local standards.
- Prints and performs clerical tasks related to cataloging reports from library’s automated system.
- Perform Acquisitions Department functions using a fully integrated automated library system, including, but not limited to, ordering, receiving and processing of print and non-print library materials
- Performs processing of books and other materials; including but not limited to creating spine labels, adding copies and performing inventory control tasks.
- May assists in training and directing volunteers assigned to Technical Services projects.
- Performs other clerical tasks, as assigned.
- Sorts and delivers incoming mail to library staff.
- Report violations of library rules or other conduct effecting library security to supervisor.
**Non-Essential Job Functions: **
- Performs other duties as required
- Performs circulation desk functions: Charges materials in and out, renews materials, register borrowers, edits borrowers’ records, receives fines and fees on patron accounts, searches catalog, places hold, answers phone and forwards calls.
- Performs circulation and youth desk coverage needed.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Two years of experience in library technical services department required.
- Strong working knowledge of computers, including Word and Windows.
- Ability to interact with co-workers and public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to assess volatile and potentially dangerous situations with patrons in accordance with Library procedures.
- Ability work independently and accurately and make judgments of moderate complexity within the framework of training and local standards.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to use office equipment in addition to computer, including but not limited to photocopier, fax machine, typewriter and paper cutter.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
