Job Summary Under general supervision, performs duties requiring mid-level operational skills and knowledge. Performs specialized technical and/or public/customer service duties at the Circulation desk. Handles operations of Hubert Library Serials with information systems, which includes online journal maintenance, databases, online and print renewals, handling invoices, managing the claims process, and the physical processing of subscription and standing order arrivals.

  • Provides customer service at the Circulation Desk as the weekend lead on Fridays (closes), Saturdays (opens), and Sundays (opens). Assists patrons at the Circulation desk with circulation of materials, basic reference questions, and information as needed. Assists to recruit, train, and supervise temp and Federal Work Study students. Reviews, receives, and processes Hubert Library print and electronic serials and databases, as well as print and electronic monographs.  This includes processing periodicals, newspapers, and standing orders; reviewing the accuracy of the items received, identifying changes in title or publication frequency; and the check-in of all titles in the ILS.  Creates and updates check-in patterns and holdings in the ILS.  Makes issue and title claims to the subscription agent, as needed. Assists HL Acquisitions staff with initial review of firm order requests received in local acquisitions database, OLAS. This entails searching the Library’s existing holdings, to ensure duplicate copies are not purchased in error. When applicable, the Library Specialist will place requests with the Library’s primary vendor.

Education/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of related experience or Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications Basic knowledge of library management system Alma. Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system. Ability to adapt to changing work conditions/ technologies and variable workloads. A strong public service commitment in working with Library staff and users. Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
