Overview

A library page assists library staff with routine tasks that support the day to day functioning of the library, including the shelving, maintenance and organization of library materials. This position reports to the Adult and Reader Services Librarian. When the Adult and Reader Services Librarian is not on-site, this position receives support from the Circulation Supervisor and/or librarians.

Staff members work energetically and collaboratively to contribute to the success of our programs, spaces, collections, and services across all areas of the library, in addition to focusing on their area of primary responsibility. Job Responsibilities:

Shelving and Collection Maintenance

  • Reshelves library materials according to library system of organization
  • Locates items to fulfill patron requests and items for deletion
  • Scans library shelves to ensure library materials are ordered properly; straightens, shifts, and reorganizes library materials as needed
  • Answers basic patron questions; refers in-depth questions to library clerks and librarians
  • Other duties as assigned

Administrative

  • Supports the mission and vision of the library by working collaboratively and effectively communicating with all library staff
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organization and alphabetization skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A commitment to serving our community
  • Ability to positively relate to and communicate with library patrons and staff members  
  • Ability to understand library policies and procedures
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • May be required to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • May be required to lift, pull, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work weekday afternoons and weekends
