The Bedford Free Public Library in Bedford, Massachusetts (pop. 14,161), is seeking an energetic and forward-thinking librarian to be our Director. The successful candidate will join a beloved, well-funded institution in a vibrant and diverse community with a robust Friends group of over 60 years. 

Under the general direction of the Board of Trustees, this person will manage, along with the Assistant Director, the day-to-day operations of the library, including personnel, budgeting, and implementation of policies and procedures. This position also involves the development and oversight of programming, reference, collection development, the integration of new technologies, marketing, and communication.

Requirements:

This position requires a master’s in library & information science from an ALA-accredited library school and a thorough knowledge of professional library principles, methods, and practices. Significant public library administration experience and five years of supervisory experience is required. The ideal candidate must be an exceptional team player and have a proven ability to deliver exemplary customer service. 

The right candidate will possess outstanding communication and organizational skills, strong supervisory and training skills, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of public libraries. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of technology-related library functions, both internal and consortium related. 

This position is 40 hours per week. The salary range is $115,812 to $150,545 depending on experience and includes a comprehensive town benefits package.
