The Oak Park Public Library seeks a friendly, collaborative, and organized part-time Library Clerk to join our Materials Handling team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sorts and shelves returned materials.
  • Processes materials from SWAN libraries.
  • Assists with daily deliveries.
  • Operates the automated materials handling machine.
  • Retrieves and fulfills library materials holds.
  • Maintains the physical collections.
  • Helps with projects in other service areas as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Frequently required to walk, push, move, bend, stand, sit, squat, grasp, reach, stretch, talk, and hear.
  • Close visual acuity to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and transport or move up to 100 pounds of library materials from one location to another.
  • Function in narrow aisles.

Education and Experience

Required
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
Preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Details

This position is part-time, 15 hours per week, including required weekend and evening hours.

The starting hourly rate is $16.50.

As part of the compensation package, part-time (15-hour) library staff members receive benefits, including:

  • Paid Time Off: 36 hours of paid health leave annually, 20 hours of paid personal leave annually, up to 13 paid holidays each year (only if regularly scheduled to work the day of the holiday), and eight weeks of paid parental leave
