Department: Jenks Library

**Location: **In-person, starting January 2, 2025

**Salary: **$17-$19/hour

**Hours: **7:30 AM – 11:30 AM, Monday – Friday, mid-August through mid-May, with 2-4 evening meetings per year

Summary: As a member of the library team, the library circulation manager will hire, train, schedule, and mentor student workers in addition to creating a welcoming and safe environment for patrons to study through staffing the circulation desk during key morning hours.

Your Essential Responsibilities Will Include:

  1. Circulation
    1. Assisting student, staff, faculty, and public patrons at the Circulation Desk, including the circulation of materials, policy explanation, complaint resolution, problem solving, patron registration, and collecting fines.
    2. Overseeing maintenance of borrower accounts and circulation of library materials in the Integrated Library System (ILS) in partnership with the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE).
    3. Monitoring the condition of library materials for needed repairs.
    4. Keeping records of cash register transactions.
  2. Student Worker Supervision
    1. Hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising student workers who provide library services, including circulation, shelving, and shelf-reading.
    2. At least once per semester, organizing an evening training session for student workers.
    3. Creating and distributing circulation shift schedules. Approving time entries.
    4. Writing and distributing routine updates to students and evening circulation attendant
    5. Updating circulation policies and procedures as needed. Updating manuals and retraining student workers and evening circulation attendant.
    6. Facilitating opening and closing procedures for the library through training and communicating with student workers and the evening circulation attendant.
  3. Other duties as assigned, including collaborating on library-wide projects

You Bring These Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

You love mentoring students as they develop job skills, collaborating with a small team to make library processes more efficient, and providing friendly and helpful service to library patrons. Additionally, you have:

  1. The ability to work with and train a diverse team of student workers. Experience with supervision or working with students preferred.
  2. Attention to detail and organization.
  3. Service orientation and a desire to both serve the current patron and anticipate future needs of library patrons.
  4. General understanding of library procedures. Experience with library circulation ideal, but not necessary.
  5. Associate or bachelor’s degree.
  6. Competency in operation of computer systems, including Microsoft Office, OneDrive, and Outlook. Experience with Integrated Library Systems preferred.
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Ability to work independently and identify and prioritize tasks.
  9. Collaborative problem-solving skills.
