Position Description:The University of Louisville is seeking a Library Assistant III to fulfill all in-house and external imaging service orders for Archives and Special Collections. Creates and mounts exhibitions within Archives and Special Collections. Organizes, rehouses, and describes photographic archives collections to facilitate user access. Conducts large-scale scanning projects. Manages Archives and Special Collections' social media program. Provides reference assistance and instruction to ASC researchers; instructs researchers and others on proper care and handling of archival materials. Hires, trains, and supervises student workers and volunteers working on photographic archives projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Manage all print service orders and in-house imaging requests
- Assist Archives & Special Collections staff with exhibit preparation
- Independently conceive, design, and install exhibitions
- Work independently and in collaboration to organize, rehouse, and describe Photographic Archive collections to facilitate user access
- Identify, propose, and create digital collections
- Conduct large-scale scanning projects
- Manage the social media program of ASC
- Hire, train, and supervise student workers on photographic archives projects
- Provide reference assistance and instruction to ASC researchers
- Instruct users, students and colleagues on proper care and handling of archival materials
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Art, Photography, Digital Imaging, Museum Studies or similar
- 3 years' experience with scanning photographic materials and scanning technologies
- Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
- Experience with exhibition preparation including mat cutting, framing, and hanging artwork
- Familiarity and working knowledge of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Knowledge of: Digital photography formats, Ink-jet printing, including creating printer profiles, History of photography, photographic materials, and processes. Preservation of photographs including nitrate, glass, and deteriorating materials, and proper procedures for handling archival materials. Archives and archival processing

Compensation Target: $18.56 per hour
