Job Summary

The Library Assistant II- Night Shift position provides help desk and supervisory skills on the night shift. Library Assistant II - Night Shift manages the operation of the Help Desk during assigned shift, including supervision of student employees. The contribution of this position is to provide evening and late-night library services to students, faculty, staff and the community.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Utilize the integrated library system (ILS) to provide library services in conjunction with library policies, including lending services, create and maintain patron accounts, provide public patron access, and resolve issues.
  • Assure confidentiality of information in compliance with library and university policies and state laws.
  • Provide Help Desk and technical services, including computer, printer and copier instruction and troubleshooting, monitor chat, basic research inquiries and referrals for advanced requests.
  • Provide patron assistance in accessing Interlibrary Loan Services(ILS).
  • Assist ILS staff by assuring accuracy of patron account information and copyright compliance, process book and/or article requests, and provide document delivery via the interlibrary loan system.
  • Assist in maintaining records and deleting titles from ILS.
  • Serve as the library collection agent for printing, overdue fines, lost items, and ILL charges.
  • Maintain cash balances in safe, cash drawer and state drawer.
  • May prepare paperwork and deposit funds with university cashiers.
  • May review overdue accounts and update records and reports weekly.
  • Place and remove library holds on student university records.
  • Assign daily tasks and supervise student library assistants.
  • Participates in training new student employees.
  • May make recommendations regarding student hiring.
  • Assist in providing a neat and clean environment in the department and collaborative study spaces.
  • Monitor facilities for maintenance and safety issues and report issues to appropriate library staff or contact Campus Security if needed.
  • May be responsible for preparing the library for opening or closing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Two (2) years of college.
  • Work experience in a library setting.

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Good communication skills.
  • Use of personal computer and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in operation of office machines.
  • Data entry and record keeping.
  • Cash handling.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
