The Library Acquisitions Manager will work closely with the Director of Collections & Archivist to manage Library acquisitions processing and accounting operations, catalog library resources in all formats, and supervise the Collections Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Operations Management Manages acquisitions processing operations. Manage acquisitions ordering and receiving, collection maintenance, and cataloging processes. Provides supervision for Collections Maintenance Supervisor, and delegates additional duties as needed.

Budget Management Manages the Lamson Library acquisitions budget, including receipt and payment of invoices through UShop, setup and closure of standing orders, budget reconciliation. Adds new vendors to the system as needed. Troubleshoots issues with vendor payments. Prepares reports as needed. Monitor budget expenditures utilizing WebI reports and Excel. Prepares new fiscal year setup, and year end budget close processes in OCLC WorldShare.

Acquisitions and Receiving

  • Responsible for the acquisitions lifecycle, from ordering resources selected by librarians, to receiving and preparing resources for public use, and discards. Places orders and acquires bibliographic records (EOCRs) from monograph vendor (Gobi), following internal accounting procedures. Ensures duplicate orders are avoided. Responsible for physically processing all incoming library materials, from shipping cartons to the shelf, preparing them for public use, following retention guidelines as applicable for certain types of materials. Troubleshoot acquisitions-related problems with vendors. Keeps track of titles requested by specific patrons or for course reserves; places books on hold and notifies patron.
  • Coordinates library materials processing procedures for all formats.
  • Manages all aspects of dissertations submissions, including acquisitions, original cataloguing, manuscript shipment preparation, and uploads to ProQuest and Summit Institutional
  • Repository Cataloging and Bibliographic Control - Performs original and complex cataloging of library materials based on current professional standards using the OCLC WorldShare system and its utilities. Catalogs and assigns call numbers to unique library collections including K-12 Curriculum, audio-visual media, and N.H. government documents. Activates ebooks in WorldShare Collection Manager. Catalogs Plymouth State University dissertations and theses, and special collections materials. Exercises judgment for referring questions to the Collection Access Librarian. Receives and prepares gifts for retention decisions. Leads catalog cleanup projects including discards, long-overdue item management, and false links.
