The Library Accounts Supervisor reports to the Library Services Manager. Supervises full time and part time employees. Responsible for managing the circulation functions of the library by supervising and directing the work of Library Accounts Unit. Assists customers and provides solutions to problems. Supervises and trains personnel; evaluates performance and maintains discipline. Serves on the library management team. Develops and administers process and procedures for areas of responsibility. Work is performed with general direction, working from broad goals and policies, and requires use of independent judgment and discretion.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates library accounts and circulation functions including library cards and patron accounts, fines/fees, collection inventory, charging/discharging materials, and shelving.
  • Direct and coordinate personnel of the Library Accounts Unit including selecting, training, supervising, scheduling, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Assist and instruct patrons in using library resources, services, computers, printers, copiers, fax, vending, and other equipment and software.
  • Assist patrons with directional and procedural inquiries.
  • Use search and retrieval techniques to locate appropriate print, audiovisual, and electronic materials.
  • Create and maintains library customer accounts, records, and patron confidentiality.
  • Investigates, responds to and resolves customers’ concerns, issues and/or complaints.
  • Coordinates library-material processes such as shelving, sorting, expired/suspended holds, lost and recovered, return claims, missing and mismatched, damaged, deemed lost, and other.
  • Supervises and monitors cash handling procedures, deposits and records including calculating, receiving, and posting payments; balancing cash drawer; collecting and balancing monies from the public use copiers, printers, fax, and vending units; preparing accurate daily department bank deposits and records management imaging.  
  • Develop service and workflow processes. Maintain records, statistics, and written procedures.
  • Compiles, reviews, and analyzes data to optimize efficient library circulation operations.
  • Assists in troubleshooting circulation related hardware/software issues.
  • Promote library services to the community and participate in community organizations as appropriate.
  • Participate in library outreach activities.
  • Participate as a member of the library’s management team to determine library-wide goals and objectives.
  • Oversee development of flyers, guides, and other informational materials while maintaining City of Lewisville brand standards.
  • Interpret and enforce City and Library policies and ensure safety of customers and staff.
  • Adopt and promote City goals and initiatives such as Lewisville 2025 and The Lewisville Way.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned. 

Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field required. Master Degree in Library Science preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of library experience. Two (2) years of related experience with supervisory responsibilities. 

Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: None

Conditions of Employment: Must submit to and pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License Class “C” and good driving record as defined by City policy. An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class, will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.

Other Requirements: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and some split shifts as required. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Library science principles and practice related to circulation services; organization of library materials including Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Subject Heading, and bibliographic utility; mathematical principles, including basic statistics; equipment, technology, and library automation systems related to library operations; supervisory principles; and human development and behavior.

Skilled In: Providing exemplary customer service in person, over the phone, and by email or other electronic methods; responding to customer requests, complaints, and suggestions regarding library services and to effectively manage sensitive situations requiring courtesy, persuasion, and tact; applying independent judgment, personal discretion, and resourcefulness in interpreting and applying guidelines; defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions; gathering and analyzing information and making recommendations based on findings and in support of organizational goals; training and directing subordinate personnel according to City and departmental policies and procedures; performing supervisory skills and working as a team member; establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with the public and fellow employees; operating standard office and library equipment and automated systems; learning and utilizing new processes, procedures, software, and equipment; troubleshooting computer and equipment problems; teaching individuals and groups; communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; developing and implementing written guidelines and procedures; effectively prioritizing workload and scheduling personnel for maximum efficiency; accepting responsibility for one’s own actions; following instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks; being punctual and attending work regularly; paying close attention to detail; performing work accurately and thoroughly; handling confidential information in a responsible manner; working effectively with people regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran’s status, genetics, or job type.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas, walking between work areas, and physically moving library materials, furniture, equipment, and other items is required.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. 

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
