The Glenview Public Library is seeking an energetic and forward-thinking Innovation Services Manager to oversee our vibrant makerspace and lead the development of innovative programming that empowers our community.

The Innovation Services Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operations of our makerspace, supervising staff, developing programs, teaching classes, and fostering a culture of exploration, learning, and collaboration. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Library’s Innovation Center, developing programs that empower our community and inspire the next generation of creators and innovators.

The pay range for this position is $65,588 to $76,000 annually depending on qualifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide visionary leadership for the makerspace and the staff, developing and implementing a strategic plan for its growth and evolution.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the makerspace, including equipment maintenance, safety protocols, and user engagement.

  • Develop and lead engaging workshops and hands-on learning experiences for patrons of all ages, ensuring an inclusive environment where beginners and experts alike feel supported. Workshops include STEM/STEAM learning, digital fabrication, coding, robotics, crafting, and other maker activities.

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and enthusiastic work environment.

  • Work closely with library departments, community partners, schools, and local organizations to expand makerspace outreach and collaboration.

  • Manage the makerspace budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation, and grant opportunities.

  • Stay current with emerging trends in maker technology, digital fabrication, and experiential learning to ensure our makerspace remains cutting-edge.

  • Ensure the makerspace is an inclusive environment that serves diverse populations, including people of all ages and skill levels.

**Education/Experience/Qualifications **

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Education, Library Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, or related disciplines).

  • Experience managing a makerspace, innovation lab, or similar creative space.

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in staff supervision, project management, and community engagement.

  • Knowledge of makerspace technology and a demonstrated ability to develop proficiency in using and teaching 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machines, coding, robotics, and digital design software.

  • Experience managing a makerspace, innovation lab, educational program, or creative space, OR demonstrated leadership in a learning-focused environment.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Passion for fostering a culture of creativity, experimentation, and lifelong learning.

  • Experience developing and facilitating engaging educational programs and workshops.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and provide basic maintenance and support.

  • Ability to work one night a week and one weekend a month.
