Description

The Health Sciences and Applied Research Librarian (HSAR) supports the information literacy and collection development needs of programs in the College of Health Professions, College of Life Sciences, and College of Rehabilitation Sciences, as well as subjects related to health sciences like clinical psychology. This librarian will focus primarily on programs on the Jefferson University East Falls/New Jersey campuses. In addition, this librarian will provide information and resource support for applied research on the East Falls campus.  

 The HSAR Librarian collaborates with Information Services librarians at all Jefferson Libraries on outreach initiatives and responsibilities relating to information literacy instruction, research support, scholarly publishing, and collection development, as well as other programming related to student and faculty success.  

 This position is a hybrid position with remote work one day per week in addition to working from the Scott Memorial Library, Center City campus, as needed. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides information services and instruction (both in-person and online, synchronous and asynchronous) to the Thomas Jefferson University community
  • Provides liaison, instruction, and collection development services to the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Life Sciences, the health sciences and health professions programs on the East Falls campus (and New Jersey).
  • In collaboration with Jefferson Library colleagues, create workshops that build information literacy and citation management skills for Jefferson students and faculty on the effective use of information resources, including but not limited to search engines, AI, and bibliographic management software.
  • Assists the East Falls Campus community with systematic reviews
  • Stays abreast of new platforms, technologies, methods, and trends for reference, information literacy, and scholarly communications and research.
  • Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of health sciences librarianship such as evidence-based practice, critical appraisal, open access publishing, NIH Public Access Policy, and social networking.
  • Executes mediated database searches using a variety of bibliographic vendors.
  • Develop library collections to support curriculum in assigned liaison areas.
  • Provides reference services within and outside liaison area. Provides research consultations within liaison area.
  • Designs and maintains learning materials and tools, including but not limited to the Springshare suite of products; collaborates with Scott Memorial Library librarians to streamline and maintain learning materials.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Knowledge of medical and health literature databases, evidence-based medicine, and systematic reviews required
  • Experience with advanced literature-searching techniques is essential.
  • Two (2) years or more experience teaching or leading workshops on information management skills in an academic library setting, preferably in the health sciences and related research subjects.   
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including effectively collaborating with colleagues, students, and faculty on various projects and library services.
  • Collaborative approach to outreach, problem-solving, and working across organizational departments to meet user needs.


EDUCATION REQUIRED: 

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited school
