The graduate assistantship (GA) provides support to Professor Melissa Chomintra within the Libraries and School of Information Studies (LSIS). The GA will contribute to a research project focused on analyzing the prevalence and impact of citational justice within the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). This project aims to investigate patterns of citation in LIS scholarship, examining whose work is cited, whose is marginalized, and the implications for knowledge production and dissemination within the field. The GA will contribute to all aspects of the research process. Some project components may be done remotely.Responsibilities

  • Contribute to conducting a comprehensive literature review on citational justice, citation practices, and the politics of citation
  • Collect and analyze citation data from a range of LIS publications (e.g., journals, conference proceedings, books).
  • Assist with developing and refining data collection methodologies and coding schemes.
  • Contribute to the development of research questions and hypotheses.
  • Assist with data cleaning, management, and analysis.
  • Contribute to the interpretation of findings and the writing of scholarly publications.Required Qualifications

Must be a current graduate student.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skillsPreferred Qualifications
  • Strong interest in issues of social justice, equity, and inclusion
  • Familiarity with searching and information retrieval in library databases
  • Familiarity conducting literature review in the social science/humanitiesTo Apply
