Full-Time Public Services Librarian

New year, new job? The Palos Heights Public Library is looking for a creative, energetic, and friendly full-time librarian to join our bustling Public Services Department and assist our adult patrons. We are looking for a candidate who will:

• Answer general reference questions

• Provide readers’ advisory

• Assist patrons with technology, including downloading ebooks and using our FabLab

• Help with collection development

• Understand and be able to demonstrate our databases

• May be asked to lead technology classes or book discussions

• May be asked to plan and/or host library programs

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• MLIS degree preferred but not required

• Ability to develop effective working relationships with library users

• Proficient with technology (computer, phone, tablet, etc) and current social media

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to maintain a positive and friendly demeanor in adverse situations

• Must be able to work two evenings per week and rotating weekends

• The successful candidate must have strong customer service skills and enjoy working with a diverse public

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with genealogy platforms greatly appreciated

• Experience with makerspaces, including Cricut, GlowForge, and 3D printer

• Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony / Workflows

• Experience digitizing photographs for a local history collection

• Ability to produce quality graphic designs
