**Experiential Learning Specialist ** Part-time - 18 hours 

Schedule

  • Thursdays 3PM-9PM

  • Fridays 3PM-9PM

  • Sundays 12PM-6PM

Under the supervision of the experiential learning supervisor, staff's experiential learning spaces (including the Studio, the BOOMbox, and the Lab), mentors community members using the spaces, contributes to development and maintenance of spaces, and provides excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualifications: (education, experience, and certifications)

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Experience providing customer service to youth and families or relevant work experience

Minimum Competencies: (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft operating system, Apple operating system, and Google Drive
  • Comfortable with technology in general
  • Broad cultural competency knowledge and skills, and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and community
  • Commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and community members

Preferred Competencies:

  • Experience in STEAM and/or maker learning environment

  • Proficiency working Windows and Apple applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Cloud, iMovie, Garageband, and TinkerCAD

  • Knowledge of and comfort with maker-related technologies, projects, and systems, including, but not limited, to sewing and embroidery, 3D printing, vinyl and paper cutting, and laser cutting and engraving

  • Interest in computer and/or video gaming (Minecraft, Roblox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)

  • Strength in digital media creation such as audio, images, and video

  • Multilingual skills in English plus another language(s) relevant to the Skokie community

Essential Functions:

  • Staffs the BOOMbox (STEAM learning space) and the Lab (youth computer space), or the Studio (makerspace)
  • Provides drop-in assistance with multiple devices, equipment, software, and activities related to maker, technology, and STEAM topics
  • Troubleshoots minor problems with equipment, software, and peripherals in the Studio, BOOMbox, and Lab
  • Ensures that rules are consistently followed in the experiential learning spaces
  • Cleans and checks equipment and furniture daily for general working order
  • Reports problems—computer, equipment, or behavioral—to the supervisor, safety officers, librarian in charge, or other appropriate staff
  • Executes opening and closing procedures for spaces
  • Regular, punctual, and predictable attendance
  • Completes projects assigned by supervisor

Other Functions:

  • Collaborates with supervisor to implement new services

  • Collaborates with staff in Learning Experiences and other departments to develop and facilitate hands-on learning experiences

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Ability to perform office-related functions including extended concentration on a computer, and typing capability

  • Work may include prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, bending, lifting/moving materials, getting down on the floor, as well as near constant computer use.

  • Manual dexterity, clear speech, hearing acuity, and correctable vision needed

  • Noise level is generally moderate

  • Scheduling may require availability during any library operating hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and occasionally when the library is closed. Although a weekly schedule is established, the needs of the library may require scheduling changes and flexibility.

  • Employee required to park in designated area
