Job Summary:

The Experiential Learning Librarian provides experiential learning opportunities that positively impact the academic and professional success and retention of UTA’s diverse student population through ideation, experimentation, and creation within UTA courses. Additionally, the Experiential Learning Librarians serves as a liaison to one or more campus departments. As an active participant in the liaison program, they will embrace a spirit of collaboration, mutual support, and encouragement of others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with faculty and staff to develop experiential and project-based curriculum and programs that utilize the Libraries’ creative technologies and unique resources and positively impact students’ academic success.
  • Serves as liaison to one or more campus departments by:
    • Developing and maintaining subject expertise and professional knowledge
    • Regularly conducting outreach and maintaining consistent communication with assigned departments or colleges
    • Providing excellent research and instructional support for students, faculty, and staff
    • Utilizing sound assessment methods for measuring student learning and incorporating evaluative practices for professional growth
    • Contributes to the fields of librarianship and higher education and their own professional development through research, presentation, and publishing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program OR graduate degree in a relevant field with one (1) year experience teaching, training, and/or presenting professionally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience and knowledge of current and emerging creative technologies related to making, digital media and art creation, game and app development, virtual reality, virtual production, motion capture, and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with the application of creative technologies in academic libraries.
  • Working experience and knowledge of experiential learning theory and practice, various teaching methodologies, and research-related to pedagogy and learning.
  • Experience with liaison librarian responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with library and instruction-related tools, technologies, and platforms.
  • Ability to promote library services through varied communication channels, such as in-person and online.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with people of different backgrounds in a team-based environment.
  • An understanding of the research, technology, and instructional needs of the faculty, staff, and students.
  • Professional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm.

  • Occasional hours might be worked outside of normal working hours due to course meeting times or other events.
  • Flexibility is required to ensure the department is appropriately staffed in order to satisfy all service needs.
  • Professional development, conferences, and training may require travel and/or overnight accommodations.
