The Evening Library Assistant works with the Evening Circulation Supervisor and student assistants to administer essential library services in the evenings during the academic year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Circulation Services

  1. Serves as a role model for excellent customer service skills at all times.

  2. Supports a climate of friendly, helpful, and intellectually curious student assistants who work together as a team to provide exemplary library service.

  3. Staffs the Public Services desk, including checking out and checking in materials and providing general assistance to patrons.

  4. Oversees the work of student assistants.

  5. Reports building maintenance issues to supervisor and submits requests to Facilities Maintenance.

  6. Assists with filling poster printing requests, including creation of accurate billing records.

  7. Restocks photocopy machines as needed.

  8. Maintains library door count.

  9. Performs closing tasks as required.

  10. Participates in library staff meetings as schedule permits.

Professional Development

  1. Works closely with supervisor to continually and enthusiastically master new databases and related products.

  2. Participates in position- and product-specific training and webinars.

  3. Maintains professional written and verbal communication.

  4. Models professional and enthusiastic behavior with library patrons and college employees.

  5. Works on special projects with other employees as time and key responsibilities permit.

  6. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school degree required.

  2. Ability to meet the public in a pleasant and helpful manner required.

  3. Ability to organize work and time; work closely with library colleagues, and work independently and with others on library projects is necessary.

  4. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and verbal and written skills a must.

  5. Proficiency with personal computing applications required.
