The Department of Information and Communication Sciences at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Electronic Resources Librarian to join the Medical Library as a Research Assistant Professor. This position contributes to the effective management and accessibility of the library's electronic resources and serves as the primary cataloger. The Electronic Resources Librarian works collaboratively to ensure seamless discovery and access to a wide range of scholarly materials for our students, faculty, residents, staff, and area health professionals.

Duties include assisting the Head of Scholarly and Institutional Resources in the acquisition, licensing, and renewal of electronic resources such as databases, e-books, and online journals. Responsibilities also involve creating and maintaining accurate bibliographic records in the library's cataloging and discovery systems (e.g., ALMA, OCLC, DOCLINE) using established standards and best practices. The Electronic Resources Librarian will monitor usage statistics, troubleshoot access issues, and work with vendors to resolve problems. This position collaborates with Reference and Instruction librarians and library staff to improve the discoverability and accessibility of electronic resources and to optimize the user experience. This position may participate in library instruction and staff training related to e-resources.

Qualifications for the position include completion of a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited school, experience with cataloging, and familiarity with cataloging standards and best practices. Candidates must have a strong public service commitment, familiarity with databases and electronic resources used in scholarly research (PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, OVID, etc.), excellent communication skills, and sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations. Experience with ALMA/PRIMO VE, familiarity with the Springshare suite, and health sciences librarianship coursework or experience are preferred.

The position reports to the Head of Scholarly and Institutional Resources, who reports to the Director of the Medical Library, who reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum. The SIU Medical Library is located in Springfield, IL, and is part of the SIU System.
